Self-conscious of protruding ears

After being self-conscious of my protruding ears my whole life, I finally decided to do something about it. It was a very quick and simple procedure (local anesthetic only), and an easy recovery. My friends tell me they never even noticed my ears, but I am thrilled with the results! It’s a simple pleasure, but at last I can wear my hair in a pony and not have the feeling that everyone is staring at my ears!

Tired of being called dumbo

I can so relate to your problem with being self-conscious about ears. I also have big ears that have caused me to be teased. Not to mention, I can never wear cute litte headbands or my hair in a pony tail. Actually, it is not really that my ears are large, it is that they point out kind of like dumbo I'm told. So finally my parents have agreed to let me do something about them and I am consdiering getting ear surgery. I am not sure though if I am too young for ear surgery. Some people say I am and that they will still continue to grow, and some say it will be fine that I am not too young. Has anyone else had ear surgery when they were 15?

Tired of being called dumbo

Personally I don't think you're too young at all. What really prompted me to look into ear surgery was that my daughter was feeling the same about her ears as I had as a child. I could understand exactly how she felt and wanted to do something about it. She actually had her surgery before me! She was only 9 at the time and couldn't be happier about her new look. She now confidently wears her hair up. I say go for it! BTW I believe your ears continue to grow all your life, so there's no point in waiting.

If your daughter was 9 when she had her surgery I am definitely not too young. I spoke to my parents and we are going to schedule my consultation tomorrow! I can't wait for my new pair of ears! Thanks Jayne Smiling

The earliest age for having

The earliest age for having ear surgery is about 4 years of age. Thre are many adult patients who wait their whole lives to get it done. After the surgery is done, the only regret they usualy have is that they didn't do it when they were younger so that they could avoid all that teasing. It is a relatively easy recovery and almost no pain or discomfort. I would certainly say Go for it, enjoy your youth. Just make sure to do your homework and find a board certified surgeon who does quite a bit of ears. Take a look at some pictures etc. Good luck.

A friend of mine had ear

A friend of mine had ear surgery when he was 10. It was the best thing he ever did, and wished he had done it even younger.
