How to choose the right breast size
The doctor recommended to go larger than smaller because most women regret having gone too small.

I went larger than what I originally planned on,and I do REGRET it! I am very limited on the styles I can wear.
That's unfortunate. Most plastic surgeons do not like to go larger than what would be considered natural. I practice in Southern California where "natural" no longer is always so natural. This is why bra sizing during consultation is critical. It allows you to see what you will look like.

Niki - The most important factor when considering breast augmentation is to be well-informed... if you know what "look" you are going for (dramatic or more natural) try to convey this to your surgeon by talking in cc's rather than cup size. Cup size can vary depending on what manufacturer you are looking at. Additionally, many women are able to wear a variety of cup sizes (34b/36a or 34b/34c) depending on the way they like their bra to fit. Knowing what you want your new breast volume to be (in cc's) will help give you a realistic idea of how large you will be post op and reduce the chances of dissatisfaction.
